Best wishes for a terrific weekend, everyone! I will be starting my little web design class this Saturday, so please cross your fingers that it’s a good fit. (Heck, I hope I get some pointers so I can finally customize this little blog!) I’ll be hauling down to College for Creative Studies in Detroit, which should also give me an opportunity to continue exploring areas of Detroit that are changing…
It’s snowy here, but not nearly as snowy as predicted, and it’s actually relatively warm (early 30s!) - it may even be good sledding weather if we can find time to cram in something fun this weekend. I’ll be back to let you know about the class, and to keep posted on any other developing projects (eg. bags and bags of felted sweaters in wait).
Take care!

Who knew sewn paper was so hot? Love it! I came across Art School Girl today - she creates cards using vintage book illustrations cut and sewn onto cards. The illustrations are classic and she uses great colors to complement the pieces. Hmm… I think I found her work via Olio United… tho you can also buy more direct.

Son of a gun, I knew there were loads of creative, talented people out there - but honestly, sometimes it’s a little overwhelming. I just love the simplicity of these images sewn onto such bold colors - who wouldn’t love to get one of these special notes in the mail?! Hooray!

All I’m saying is that Groundhog Day may well be my favorite holiday of the entire year.

I want to give a nod to my little list of favorite textile links at left. Each one is totally unique and offers the most creative textures and interesting ways of using felt, nylon or yarn (all fairly simple raw materials) for some phenomenal results.
Last night, I came across Mary-Ann Williams’ award-winning Illu-Stration. (Just further proof that you have to keep on clicking, even if it keeps you up til 2am - I found Illu-Stration on Deocentric, which Creature Comforts noticed, and I found that through decor8! Very six-degrees to Illu-Stration, and I’m thrilled to have found it.) Every page I clicked on made my jaw drop further - she has used felt in amazing ways.

Pictured above (clockwise starting with top left): Pappardelle cushion (inspired by the pasta, like some of her other textures); oak leaf panel; plissee rug; and grass rug. At top is a cappelletti rug.
Mary-Ann also has a line of greeting cards - many of which are stitched felt! It’s all just a little too fabulous that I don’t even know where to begin. Just take a look, and definitely visit Deocentric, which is a really beautiful blog (though, sadly, I can’t read a word - it’s in Russian!), for more inspiration.
