lovecard

I hope everyone had a good weekend! Here, it was a little warmer than usual (above freezing!) and I headed to College for Creative Studies in Detroit for my first web design class. I was apprehensive but ended up being pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be just what I’d expected - filled with people who are more like me: many who are in career transition have some experience with web design but want to learn more in order to create our own websites from start to finish. And, luckily, my classmates seem friendly and interested in getting as much out of the class as I!  [Unfortunately, however, the class had a big handful of out-of-work art directors from some great ad firms in our area - further proof that the creative job market in Detroit is TOUGH right now.]

Our teacher jumped right in and started cruising around Dreamweaver and explaining CSS. I’m so glad we’ll also be responsible for creating a multiple-page website of our own by the end of the class. I will likely work on creating a portfolio  for my mom’s latest colored pencil drawings and later turn it into an online store.  Her drawings are terrific, and I’ll look forward to sharing some here, too.

I was also pleased to talk with a fellow lover of letterpress this weekend. He is getting ready for his first stationery show booth this May and he’s totally excited about it… I really hope I can figure out a way to get to the show and check everything out.  He has also found that many letterpress people are incredibly friendly, helpful and willing to share resources. It was a really encouraging conversation, a good boost to continue to look for a press and outline ideas and options for future letterpress projects!
