How could I have forgotten so*sage in my polka dot post? So*sage is like the ambassador of polka dots right now - using huge numbers of patterned, plain and vintage paper circles for her series of sewn paper (!) garlands. Her blog is very inspirational; it’s written mostly in French with some English translation, and there are loads of great images. She has set up a separate blog for her garland series - there are zillions, most of which are sold.

So*sage creates more, if you can believe it, than the garlands. Below is an image of greeting cards with sewn paper leaf shapes. She has also screen-printed the leaf shapes onto cards, and used them in bold graphic prints (in rocking color combinations) for gift cards. Her new etsy store is “sold out” now, but keep your eyes peeled. Even her labels and packaging look fantastic.

Yay! Isn’t it always a treat to get something lovely in the mail instead of the same old bills? I just got this great postcard from my friend Matt, who recently visited the Tate Modern while in London for work (lucky). It’s called Four Sheep by Peter Kinley. Sheep are right up there with polka dots on my all-time favorites list. I think Matt and I may disagree about which end is the head and which is the rear end of the sheep, but I still love it!

I have, for as long as I can remember, had a bit of an obsession with all things round. From VW Beetles to plain round Christmas ornaments, I’m drawn to circles, dots and globes. So it comes as no surprise that I love these collages produced by Michelle Caplan for her CollageLab. She’s another one of those amazing women who produces a collage a day, and you can buy them on her etsy store. Two of my favorites from Michelle’s CollageLab are above and below. (I love the sewn frame around the one above - how can I resist a collage on fabric with sewn detail?! It’s like the best of many worlds.)

Suddenly, my favorite picture folder had an abundance of dotty images which I’d love to share!

Another from Michelle Caplan, above, though not part of the CollageLab series. Michelle’s web banner even has polka dots - swoon, for sure! I really love her eye for color, and this collage just makes me happy.

I’m smitten with Mrs. Eliot Books‘ collages and notecards - all beautiful - but I’m particularly fond of this simple and clean collage using bitsy patterned paper dots. (I’m pretty sure the dots are from Susy Jack.) She also makes gorgeous collages with words and quotations AND makes adorable illustrations, many of which you can buy in her etsy store, birdie1973.

This notecard from clearpink has a great grommet detail that works perfectly with the patterned polka dots. Now I really want to find out how to make those little grommet things with the paper discs. And have I mentioned that I also love that kraft brown paper?

Original artwork from jellybeans reminds me of the color blindness eye tests I used to get. Is there a number secretly hidden in this tree that I cannot see?

I discovered the beautiful photography of Polaroids and Pinholes through Decocentric, and loved this image of buttons. When I squint, they look a lot more like chocolate and bronze and shell-colored sequins - and aren’t sparkly dots the best kind? You can also buy from Polaroids and Pinholes on etsy - just click on through their site.

Though I did’t want to venture too much into housewares and dotty fabrics (what an endless task that would be!), I can’t resist including Hable Construction, better known for their smaller dotted fabrics. They also have pillows with big multi-colored dots. Above is their lime dottie wool felt applique pillow (hurrah for wool felt!), which you can also get in a few other colors. It’s even on sale! Check it out here.
Now onward into the polka dot world. Yesterday, I bought three sizes of circle punches from Michael’s (they were on sale, how could I not?) and am ready to go!
