fortunes

This morning’s breakfast gave me a little bit of a tummyache. After indulging in a Valentine’s Day Michel Cluizel chocolate truffle big enough for a family to share (picked up by Rob at the fantastic ABC Home), I nabbed the last two fortune cookies from our Tuesday take-out from P.F. Chang’s. I have always been a fortune fanatic, but this morning’s pair of fortunes sent a little jolt through me. Opportunity. New opportunities.

I’ve hung onto a handful of fortunes, but this morning’s were quite a propos - is it a sign? Will there really be new opportunity?

See? I really do hang on to them - here are a few on my bulletin board. But here’s the scoop. I found the neatest little gift/idea at Greer’s website - a little fortune “folio” from Lunalux (pictured below). It’s precious - a little booklet that folds up like a matchbook, about 3″ x 5″. You glue in your little fortune, record the date, place, and any other notes you have.

I love the idea of recording them all together - and noting their significance or how they resonate at that particular time - in a themed mini-journal. I just think it’s such a cute idea! And how great to know there are others out there who are just as fond of hanging onto their fortunes? As Greer notes: “Upon first discovering this fortune folio we were a bit skeptical. But then we were ignorant of that hidden segment of society that ritually saves these little bits of white paper with their bad fonts; gathering them in little envelopes, tacking them to bulletin boards, throwing them in desk drawers.” That’s me! I’m part of that hidden segment of society! I think I’m totally going to do this - but may make my own so I can make a little bit of a bigger “note/journal” section. Interested in your own? Buy yours from Greer right here!

My name is Meg. I am a Bridget Jones fan. (I admit it, I really like girl books.) Often it doesn’t work out when you read a book, then watch the movie. They don’t always do justice to what you’ve imagined when reading. But I loved Bridget Jones’ Diary. I really don’t think you can go wrong when you put Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in the same movie. I could watch it over and over. And over. And it would still make me swoon to hear Colin Firth tell Bridget that he likes her, just as she is. I mean, swoon.*

Last night was my second InDesign class, and I’m still just playing around. Our in class assignment was to make “font words.” Like, make the word “big” look BIG. It felt like typography for kindergarten, but it’s all good practice. At home, I’ve been messing with InDesign on my own and thinking about making postcards. One of my first doodles (so much in progress, pictured above with guidelines and all) is inspired by Colin Firth / Mark Darcy. Since today also happens to be Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be timely to share…
