workingclass

Just on my way out the door, I checked email and found a note from James at Working Class Heroes. They’ve launched their new website (great design and so easy to navigate!) which you can visit here. You can now buy direct (I’d bought my asphalt wool laptop case from them via etsy). The handmade quality is excellent and it looks like the details on their latest (eg. new red/white ribbon) are even more meticulous. Really nice. Other than the fact that I wish I’d splurged a little more for the closure snaps, I have been so pleased with my case! Thanks, James! Enjoy, and have a great weekend.

choco

Just a bit more chocolate before we go for the weekend. I wish I could say a little more about this fantastic chocolate type from Typolade in Germany - but I don’t know German. (Although isn’t German chocolate supposed to be some of the best in the world? I feel certain this type not only looks stunning but also tastes amazing.) I’ll be working on translating the pages to find out about buying, but in the meantime, I am positively drooling over their gorgeous photography. They show some great ideas about what you could do with their type, too.

choco2

Is this (above) set up like a California job case of chocolate?

choco3

They even create spaces, should you dare to spell out an entire chocolate sentence!

choco4

I really love the idea of using the chocolate letters to create names as placecards - how delicious! This one is elegantly wrapped up; you can eat it (it might spoil my supper!) or easily take it with you. Wouldn’t that be great at a small birthday luncheon? Otherwise, you could spell out a word (thanks!) or a name and tie it to a gift, leave it on a guest’s pillow, or leave behind a note for someone special. How wonderful.

PS. Next week, effort will be made to find carrot, apple… and other more healthy typography.

I’ve been talking to my friend Lucie about wedding invitations she’s working on, and although I usually tend toward a more clean, modern look, I’ve become really interested in these plantable papers from Botanical Paperworks. We could all use more wildflowers than weeds, so why not encourage your friends and family to plant flowers by sending plantable invitations and thank you notes?

Botanical Paperworks also offers plantable paper boxes, seed cards, favors and more in addition to a range of different styles, colors and sizes of invitations. Okay, so maybe planting your invitation and envelope won’t result in a Lady Bird Johnson landscape, but you will get a piece of beautiful handmade paper to enjoy!

saturnpress

I just came across some really intricate and detailed letterpress notecards and stationery from Saturn Press, available through Cronin & Company. Using graphics based on antique and vintage illustrations, each design has a lot of personality and interest. A small company in Maine, Saturn Press has a range of unique designs - I think my favorites are their “Cloud Formations” and “Vegetables” cards! The best thing to do would be to buy one of the three assortments available - what a fun collection!

If Christopher Walken dancing to Fatboy Slim doesn’t make you want to dance this weekend, I don’t know what will. Is he not a-maz-ing?

If you’re not already stuffed full of Valentine’s Day chocolate, do take a look at some oh-so-delicious chocolate type. Gemma at fortheloveoftype made these incredible chocolate frosted cupcakes with Gill Sans type decoration! Any chocolate cupcake is okay by me, but I think these are awesome.

scrabble1

Still not full? Hope not - because MaryandMatt created these “chocolate scrabble” chocolate bars.

This would almost make Scrabble worth playing. You’ll certainly have to pick up at least a couple of bars in order to make some good words - you can buy them right here. (They’re out of stock now, but you can sign up to be notified of when they’re available next.)

EDITOR’S AFTERNOON SNACK NOTE:

If you’re like me and you just need a quick chocolate type fix, I highly recommend substituting Newman’s Own chocolate alphabet cookies!
